Solo Exhibition

The Woods. Thanks to my boys for being the happiness that inspires me.

My art exhibition has finally come! It was a lot of work but such a great experience to have my first solo show. I am so grateful that I am done with the painting and so lucky to have the help of my awesome Nick who built just about all of my surfaces (a seriously huge job - I am very spoiled).

The reception turned out great. I had lots of friends and family that came out to support me. The gallery catered it, so we had some good food. JackJack was adorable the whole time and loved running around the gallery. I think he must have known somehow that he was the star of the show. Thank you so so much to everyone who came out, it really meant a lot to me.

The show will run until December 11 and is in the Union Gallery at Weber State.

Artist Statement:

This body of work is based on a journey of discovery and rediscovery through the simple pieces of life and memory. By finding the beauty in the perishable moments that we experience everyday, we can revisit the timeless colors, sensations and exhilaration that have long been forgotten. This can be found by watching a child explore something for the first time. By reliving precious memories, while they are passed along, the old becomes new again.

The doors represent the entry to forgotten places and moments. We are taken back to feelings and places that we have not experienced since we were little enough to walk straight through the small doorways. As we grow, we seem to loose appreciation for the wonders around us. Lost places can be remembered as we take a second look at the world through a new pair of eyes.

Discovering the there is beauty in the simplicity around us can be profound. The pieces of life that we often forget should be cherished. It is through these that we are able to find the place within ourselves where we truly want to be.
